My name is Stephen, and I work as a strategic
analyst for an automotive warranty company. Before becoming an analyst, I
worked as an automotive technician for Honda after receiving my associate
degree in automotive and diesel technology from the Universal Technical
Institute. As an analyst, I decided to return to school to earn a bachelor's
degree in cyber and data security. I chose cybersecurity because it sounds exciting,
and I want to learn new skills that could help me further my career. The need for cybersecurity specialists is increasing, which could increase my income. Although
the degree is not directly related to my current role, it offers many courses
that apply and could help me become more knowledgeable about information
technology.
I have no formal training in information technology, just what I
have learned over the years while in high school, with employers, and in my
spare time. I often rely on the internet for much of my knowledge, which I use
daily to help when writing in Structured Query Language (SQL), building
Tableau reports, and automating work processes or tasks. As for my career
aspirations, I'm undecided because I enjoy working as an analyst, but I am
interested in computer forensics which sounds like an exciting career. After graduating, I feel I will have a better idea of what I want to do career-wise. Furthermore,
I hope this course provides me with more experience with programming languages
like Python and R. I think learning computer languages could help in my current
role and in the future if I switch career paths.
I have created this blog as part of my information technology coursework which will help showcase what I have learned and help others learn more about the fundamentals of information technology. The blog will contain posts about basic concepts, such as computer hardware and history, programming languages, networks and security, and a host of other topics. Each topic will cover what I have learned during my course, which should help anyone new to the information technology field. Learning about information technology does not have to be complicated or time-consuming, and having a blog to share knowledge will encourage others to do the same while inviting people to discuss what interests them and issue they may run into.
